Judge Fines Columbus Teacher for Supplying Alcohol to Teen

liquor-sales(AP) — A Platte County Court judge fined a former Columbus teacher $500 after he pleaded no contest to attempting to procure alcohol for an 18-year-old former student.

Judge Frank Skorupa followed prosecutors’ recommendation and fined 31-year-old Aaron Sasges for supplying the teen with alcohol on Feb. 23 on a rural Butler County road.

Sasges pleaded no contest in exchange for prosecutors reducing the charge.

The judge also told Sasges it “wasn’t a very smart thing to be riding around with an 18-year-old girl drinking alcohol.”

The teen was a former student at Scotus Central Catholic High School in Columbus, where Sasges taught business and computer classes. He also coached basketball and track.

He resigned from the school at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.
