(AP) — Authorities say a Lincoln woman who would leave a room so she couldn’t hear her 2-year-old scream while being punished has been jailed.
Online court records say 23-year-old Barbara Laver on Thursday was sentenced to 180 days. She’d made a deal with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to attempted negligent child abuse.
State workers had found bruises and scratches on Laver’s 2-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son in January. Her live-in boyfriend, 28-year-old Patrick Austin, was later charged with felony child abuse and has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say she tried to protect Austin by lying about what happened to her daughter.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
