Pomeranz Dazzles In Debut Victory As Rockies Top Reds

The most prized piece in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade debuted with a bang for the Colorado Rockies yesterday afternoon in Denver. Drew Pomeranz, a left-handed pitcher who was the top prospect of the four the Rockies received from Cleveland in exchange for Jimenez in July, tossed five shutout innings and earned the win in a 4-1 Rockies victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Pomeranz allowed just two hits, walking two and striking out two, for a strong big league debut. He gave way to Jason Hammel, who worked the final four innings in relief for the save. Ty Wigginton homered and Jordan Pacheco had an RBI single to pace the Rockies offense. The win gives the Rockies the season series win over the Reds, four games to three. The Rockies are off today, headed to Milwaukee to begin a two-game series tomorrow night.
