Gorilla at Henry Doorly Zoo Celebrates 30th Birthday

henry-doorly-zoo(AP) — A gorilla at Omaha’s zoo is celebrating his 30th birthday with cake.

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium says Mosuba, a male western lowland gorilla who goes by Mo, will celebrate Saturday with a special cake made of cereal, peanut butter, carrots, grapes and yogurt frosting.

Mo was born Oct. 26, 1983. He came to the zoo in 1990, and his twin brother is at the Columbus zoo.

Mo lives in a family group at the zoo. He is normally in the large indoor display in Hubbard Gorilla Valley.

There are about 350 western lowland gorillas in accredited zoos and aquariums in the country. They are considered critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s red list of threatened species.
