Wesley L. Amweg


amweg, wesWesley L. Amweg, 87, of North Platte, passed away Oct. 31, 2013 at Centennial Park Retirement Village.

He was born January 12, 1926 to Frank and Myrtle (Cooper) Amweg at Waynoka, OK.  He grew up and attended school at Waynoka.  He served in the United States Navy during WWII and later retired in United States Air Force.  On August 26, 1973, he was united in marriage to Joan Samuelson in North Platte.  He was employed briefly for the Union Pacific Railroad and went on to work in sales and parts for various businesses.  Wes enjoyed traveling, wintering in Texas, Arizona, and Florida, fishing, woodworking, and was an avid gardener and reader. Family was important to him, he doted over his wife and loved his children, grand and great grandchildren.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Eagles.  He is survived by his wife, Joan of North Platte; children, James Michael (Melanie) Martin of Turlock, CA, Janalee (Eddie) Hanson of Kansas City, MO, and John (Peggy) Martin of North Platte; four grandchildren, Tom (Jill) Hanson, Tavis Hanson, Scott (Kelli) Martin and Carrie Williams; two great grandchildren, Layla and Mekai Martin; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and a sister.  Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorials are suggested to Pawsitive Partners.  Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Harold Rhea officiating.  Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors graveside.  Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with family receiving friends from 3pm to 5pm. Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
