(AP) — A horse that once belonged to a former Lincoln police officer is being donated to the Omaha Police Department.
The department’s mounted patrol unit will receive Vicki Bourg’s personal horse, Skinny, on Tuesday at the Lancaster Events Center in Lincoln.
Bourg, a former Lincoln police officer and school resource officer, died in January 2011 after a cancer diagnosis. Skinny is being donated by Bourg’s husband, Jesse Bourg.
The department says the 12-year-old male horse has been ridden and trained in various environments. Skinny will go through a series of tests and training before he is officially assigned to the unit.
