NSP Sees Increase in Marijuana Busts, Lincoln County Leads the Way

24-lbs-of-potNORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State Patrol says it is seeing an increase in marijuana possession arrests since neighboring Colorado legalized it just over a year ago.

Lincoln County, one of the first points drivers reach on Interstate 80 after coming out of Colorado, has led the state in number of drug arrests for the past several years.

Nebraska State Patrol Capt. Jim Parish says officers have seen an upswing in the number of people stopped carrying marijuana.

It’s common now to see someone with a prescription for medical marijuana and a card authorizing them to carry it in Colorado. They think they’re OK. But it’s still illegal in Nebraska.

He says if they’re going to use marijuana they ought to stay in Colorado where it’s legal.
