Auditions for the first musical of the 2013/2014 NPCP Season, Jesus Christ Superstar, are set.
Auditions will be held December 11th and 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Patty Birge Room at the Playhouse, 301 E. 5th. Callbacks will be held December 13th if necessary.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical started as a rock opera concept recording before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is loosely based on the Gospels’ accounts of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. It highlights political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, struggles that are not in the Bible. The resurrection is not included. It therefore largely follows the form of a traditional passion play.
The cast calls for 18 men and 12 women.
Auditions are open to all interested parties age 17 and up. Those auditioning should prepare 16 measures of a song to sing for the director.
Jesus Christ Superstar is directed by Lori Evans and is made possible, in part, by the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment of the Arts. It is produced through a special arrangement with the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.
Performance dates are February 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16, 2014 with ticket sales beginning Monday, February 3rd.
