A North Platte man has been charged with a felony after he was caught stealing from his employer.

According to NPPD Investigator John Deal, an officer responded to an employee theft call at Menards at around 2:45 p.m on Thursday.

Upon meeting with management, it was indicated that a customer had returned approximately $800 worth of lumber to the store.

Instead of giving cash to the customer, a check was generated for the refund.

Deal says the customer was supposed to receive the check on December 20th but never did.

Store officials were able to determine that Jasen Westlake took the check from an office while he was working and later returned to the store and used it to purchase approximately $800 worth of merchandise.

Following an investigation, Westlake was arrested and charged with felony theft by taking.
