BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha man is scheduled to be sentenced March 4 after being convicted in a bad-checks case in Gage County.

Online court documents say 48-year-old Russell Ortmeier pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of issuing bad checks after prosecutors lowered one count and agreed to dismiss another.

Ortmeier was accused of buying more than $68,000 worth of cattle from Beatrice 77 Livestock on Dec. 21 last year and nearly $29,000 worth on Jan. 4 this year. The two checks bounced after being deposited.

Ortmeier’s attorney told a judge at a hearing earlier this month that Ortmeier had already paid restitution of $69,000 to Beatrice 77 Livestock and intended to pay roughly $28,000 more.
