(AP) — Several families in one Lincoln neighborhood say their basements were flooded after a water main break on New Year’s Day.
The water main break in the Belmont neighborhood of north Lincoln occurred at about 4 a.m. Wednesday and affected several families.
The Lincoln Water System says that water main breaks are common when the temperatures are low in the winter, and crews worked to repair the pipe.
But homeowners in the Belmont neighborhood say their homes have flooded three times in the last 2 ½ years.
Rebecca Lile says she and her boyfriend came home early Wednesday to find their basement flooded with water. She says it’s “nasty, dirty sewer everywhere.”
