James “Jim” Andrew Stauffer, age 72, of North Platte passed away January 5, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Jim was born April 16, 1941 to Leonard and Veva (Anderson) Stauffer in Cozad, NE. He graduated Cozad High School in 1960 then soon after served 6 years in the Vietnam War as an E-6 Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged after receiving a Congressional Medal of Honor and Purple Heart.
After Jim’s discharge he worked for the City of Cozad Light & Water Company for many years before moving to Omaha, NE to sell insurance. He also worked as a custodian for many schools, then helped rebuild the IBP Plant in Lexington, NE, working as an electrician.
In 1986 he married Mary Bauer and the couple moved to North Platte, NE. Jim loved to hunt, fish, and play baseball, and was a true fan of the Huskers. After becoming ill in 1990 he was unable to work. In 2000 he was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus, overcoming it after his operation.
He was a beloved father and is survived by his sons, David (Vanessa) Stauffer, and John Stauffer all of North Platte, NE; daughters, Crystal (Ken) Agesa and Martha Stauffer all of Omaha, NE; beloved grandfather of Kacia, Daevonte, LilliAnna, Nixon, and Alisandra. He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Dee) Stauffer of Stockton, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lamont Cemetery west of Hershey, NE. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service time Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
