The Midwest Destroyers wrestling club in North Platte competed at the Winter Nationals in Omaha last weekend. The Midwest Destroyers placed seventh as a team in a tournament that had 187 teams competing.

Leading the way for the Midwest Destroyers was 150-pounder Braiden Ruffin. Ruffin won his second national tournament by going 4-0 in Omaha. He had a pin and major decision victory in his first two matches before battling for a 1-0 win in the semifinals over Zach Elam of Team Central Wrestling Club from Kansas City. Ruffin then won the finals match 7-1 to be crowned the 150-pound champion.

Six other wrestlers placed for the Midwest Destroyers. Cameron Riggs took second at 115 pounds, Darian Diaz placed fourth in the novice 65-pound division. Kirk Wilson finished fifth place at 55 pounds in the tot division, Brody Pitner also placed fifth at 50 pounds in the Bantam division. Barrett Stickelman finished in 6th place at 85 pounds and Brett Riggs finished in sixth place at 110 pounds.
