Bert and Ernie jump rope and Cookie Monster eats his favorite treat once a week instead of every day. Some Sesame Street Muppets are getting a mini-makeover as part of a project to improve kids’ health.

The television show’s producers teamed up with a heart doctor at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital on the project. A third of U.S. children and teens are obese or overweight and many don’t get enough exercise.

A test of the project in South America showed promise, and now it is coming to the United States. Several New York preschools plan to offer it later this year.

The project is aimed at 3-to-5-year-olds plus their parents and teachers. It uses Sesame Workshop-produced videos, songs, posters and activities.
