NPCC Lady Knights Come Up Short Against Eastern Wyoming

npcc-knightsNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team (13-12, 2-1 Region IX Division II) came up short Friday night in McDonald-Belton Gymnasium against the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers (15-10) as they fell 60-70 despite a double-double from April Stull.

In the first half, the Lady Knights drew first blood as they scored first and then maintained the lead for the first 12 minutes of the first half on the back of an 8-2 run. The second eight minutes was a different story as the Lady Lancers used a 16-2 run of their own to earn a lead. The Lady Lancers led by as many as nine points before taking a 28-35 advantage into the locker room. Jordan Nelson of Eastern Wyoming led all scorers at the break with 13 points. Courtney Widick of North Platte led the Lady Knights with nine points.

The Lady Knights came out firing in the second half and were able take a lead behind a 12-2 run and 12 second half points from April Stull. The Lady Knights were not able to keep the momentum rolling in their favor as the Lady Lancers would pull away and take their largest lead of the game in the final seconds to earn the 10 point victory.

April Stull led the Lady Knights with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Widick finished with 12 points and Jordan Dickerson added 10. Jordan Nelson led all scorers with 21 points and all eight Lady Lancers who dressed got in the scoring column.

“We were able to take care of the ball better tonight,” said assistant coach Nolan Collins “but we still need to make more progress in the next week.

The Lady Knights are done for the week as the game originally scheduled for Feb 16 at Nebraska Wesleyan JV has been cancelled.

The Lady Knights finish out their regular season next week with two games. First North Platte travels to Goodland, Kan. to take on Northwest Kansas Technical College (3-24) on Wednesday Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Broncos 92-76 on Nov. 22.

The last home game and last game of the regular season for the Lady Knights is Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. when they host the Southeast Community College Lady Storm (15-12, 1-2 Region IX Division II, 1-3 NCCAC) in a very important Region IX Division II match-up. The Lady Knights won in Beatrice 59-50 on Jan. 17.
