Jack S. Wright, Sr., 86, of North Platte, passed away March 14, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1928 to Harold and Margaret Elaine (Bundy) Wright at North Platte. Jack graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1945. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1949, during this time he was stationed on the USS Chewagon, touring the Pacific and Mediterranean Oceans. His military service was an endearing and adventurous time in his life. On May 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dolores V. Hamilton in Philadelphia, PA. Jack hired out to the Union Pacific Railroad in 1944 and again in 1952, employed as a switchman, brakeman, and a yardmaster, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, pinochle and was an avid Husker fan. He is survived by his sons, Jack Jr. of Crystal Falls, MI, Steven (Donna) of North Platte and Randy (Cindy) of Escondido, CA; four grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, Jason and Nicholas; five great grandchildren, Eric, Abigail, Jack, Matthew and Karson; a brother-in-law, Gilbert (Donna) Hamilton of Corpus Christi, TX; and special friend, Jean Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores in 2004; brothers, Robert, Don, George, Jerry and Fred. Memorials are suggested to North Platte Humane Society. Inturnment will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors graveside. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
