Northeast Community College to Build New Residence Hall

northeast-community-college(AP) — Northeast Community College is planning to build a new resident hall to address an ongoing student housing shortage.

Construction plans were announced last week when the college’s board of governors met. The new building will be located near the college’s two existing residence halls and two student apartment complexes in Norfolk.

Northeast Community College President Michael Chipps says administrators will issue revenue bonds to pay for the project. Construction plans call for a 79,000-square-foot residence hall that can accommodate about 200 students. It’s expected to cost about $11 million.

More than 715 students applied for 315 available beds in the fall of 2013.
