(AP) — A resentencing hearing has been delayed for a Nebraska inmate who killed his 12-year-old sister when he was 14.

The hearing had been set June 9 for Sydney Thieszen. He was convicted of murder in 1988 for the slaying at their home near Henderson on Sept. 17, 1987. Prosecutors said Thieszen killed his sister because he was afraid she would tell police he was running away from home.

In March a judge ruled that Thieszen was entitled to resentencing in accordance with a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that mandatory life-without-parole sentences for juvenile killers are unconstitutional.

The hearing has been moved to Sept. 10 at the request of the defense attorney, who said he needed more time to prepare.
