Ivan Gutherless, age 86, of Maxwell, died May 25, 2014 at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital. Ivan was born on November 22, 1927 south of Maxwell to Russel and Marie (Larsen) Gutherless.
His mother died when he was 9 years old and his grandparents Garfield and Charlott Gutherless, along with his father, raised him. He attended school at Jeffery Queen Country School and graduated from Curtis in 1946. After high school he started ranching south of Maxwell with his father and grandfather.
Ivan entered the US Army and served in Korea from 1950-1952. While serving he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Upon returning from Korea, he was united in marriage to Mary Eileen Burke on May 24, 1952 in North Platte. The couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary Saturday with their immediate family. When Ivan and Mary returned from their honeymoon, he returned to ranching where he developed skills with cattle, horses, and range management.
