Lincoln Police Identify Man Killed by Train

lincoln-policeLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Police have identified a man who was killed when he stumbled into the path of a freight train in Lincoln.

Police on Tuesday identified the man as 56-year-old Paul Edward Bellew, of Lincoln.

Lincoln police officer Katie Flood says Bellew was walking along railroad tracks Monday night when a BNSF train approached. Crew members blew the train’s horn and thought Bellew had crossed the tracks to safety, but the conductor saw him stumble and fall back into the train’s path.

The conductor couldn’t stop the train in time to avoid the man.
