GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — The Grand Island police chief says the 375 documented gang members noted in a grant application doesn’t mean that each person is still active in local gangs or even in town.
The city is seeking a $30,000 grant to integrate the city’s law enforcement reporting system with the state system so the city can share its crime data and intelligence.
Chief Steve Lamken said there are 375 names in the city database but their inclusion doesn’t mean “that each one is a hard-core gang member.”
Lamken says the database includes the names of gang members who have been sent to prison.
