LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A former superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol will help lead the state’s emergency management services.
Bryan Tuma will serve as assistant director of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency. He will replace Al Berndt, who is retiring after 14 y ears.
Tuma served as superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol from 2005 to 2011. He was commissioned into the Patrol in 1979.
Maj. Gen. Daryl Bohac, adjutant general of the Nebraska Military Department, made the appointment in his role as NEMA’s director. Bohac says Tuma’s experience will help ensure a smooth transition.
As the assistant director, Tuma will oversee the agency’s day-to-day operations and its response to state and federally declared disasters and emergencies.
