Hothan

Gregory ‘Kent’ Hothan, 63, of Placitas, NM, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away at his home Friday, July 11, 2014.

Kent was born January 24, 1951, to C.J. ‘Shorty’ and Rose Rogers Hothan in Julesburg, CO. He grew up in Big Springs, NE, Rawlins, WY and Kearney, NE. Kent graduated from Kearney High School then hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte where he worked for the Maintenance of Way and was Weed Spray Train Supervisor.

Kent later worked in construction, did carpenter work, laid tile and especially enjoyed adobe plastering work. Along with the help of many friends and family, Kent was able to use his skills to build a beautiful home for his ever growing family in New Mexico. Kent provided for his family which he loved more than anything. He also enjoyed living as an old hippie. His favorite expression was “The Hippies Were Right!”

He leaves behind his wife, Mary McDonald, of Placitas, NM; their children, Matthew, Mariah, Claire and Carolyn Hothan; his daughters, Amber Kliss and Clea Hall; five grandchildren, Aurelia Kliss, Amren Hartleigh, Landon and Wes Colwell, Rowan Cornelison; three brothers, Fred (Theo Marie) Hothan, of Centennial, CO, Lonnie (Barb) Hothan, of Ogallala, NE and Lynn (Boni) Hothan, of Hershey, NE; a sister-in-law, Sharon Hothan, of Magungie, PA; his aunt, Ruby Porter, of Julesburg, CO; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Shorty and Rose Hothan; a brother, Gary Hothan; and two sisters-in-law, Helen and Mary Hothan.

Cremation was chosen. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Kent’s house in Placitas on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.
