Kearney Hospital Cafe Might Not Reopen for Months (Video)

good-samaritan-cafe-floodKEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — It could be several months before the flood-damaged public cafeteria reopens at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

It was damaged after around 4 inches of rain Friday night overwhelmed the city’s storm sewer system early Saturday. Water rushed into the lowest level of the hospital, damaging the kitchen, the cafe and other areas. No patients or employees were injured.

Hospital spokeswoman Marsha Wilkerson said Wednesday that the kitchen providing food for the public Central Cafe and for patient meals was flooded, so walls will be taken down to the studs for repairs and equipment must be replaced.

Full food service to patients was restored by Saturday evening, thanks to a temporary kitchen that’s been set up and aid from other Catholic Health Initiative facilities.
