Eugene Tony ‘Hack’ Hakenkamp, 77, of North Platte, NE, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.
Hack was born February 1, 1937, to Tony Anthony and Inez Marie Brunswick Hakenkamp at Sacramento, CA. When he was young, the family returned to the farm near McCook, NE where he grew up. Hack started helping out on the farm when he was a young man and continued farming for several years. He also drove a truck for the McCook Rendering Company.
On May 2, 1969, Hack married Faustine Roene ‘Frosty’ Steinke in Wray, CO and they made their home in North Platte. Hack worked for Central Nebraska Packing for 43 years before retiring.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and watching Westerns. Hack took pride in his job and taught the kids a good work ethic.
Survivors include his children, Steven McNulty, of Corning, CA, Kathleen (Tom) Guggenmos, of North Platte and Deborah (Tim) McConnell, of Tryon, NE; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat (Ron) Heble, of McCook and Connie (Don) Conway, of Boise, ID; a brother, Robert (Rosie) Hakenkamp, of Aurora, CO; several nieces, nephews and other family.
Hack was preceded in death by his wife, Frosty; his parents, Tony and Inez; a sister, Sharon; and two stepdaughters, Veronica and Shelley Cox.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Parkview Community Church of the Nazarene (in the old Elk’s Building) with Pastor Jack Atteberry officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com.
