Richard “Dick” Thomas Linn


LINN, DICK

Richard “Dick” Thomas Linn, 83, of North Platte, passed away September 2, 2014 at Great Plains Health. He was born July 28, 1931 to Robert and Irma (Arthur) Linn at Emerald, CO in a coal camp. In the early years he grew up in the coal camp. The family later moved to Florence where he was raised and graduated from Florence High School. In school he was in the band and member of the National Honor Society. In 1948, he started with the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne, WY, moving to North Platte with the “Freight House Gang”, when they opened it here in North Platte in 1949. On December 2, 1952, Dick was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Hayes at North Platte. Born to this union were two children, Michael Steven and Christina Kathleen. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Union Pacific Junior Oldtimers, Elks (where he was chosen as Elk of the Year), Eagles; life member at Lincoln County Museum; and he was active in boy and girl scouts. Dick also helped with bingo at the Elks and the Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, wining several Master Angler Awards for both Rainbow Trout and Walleye; woodcarving and his garden. Dick always said “A day of fishing adds a day to your life”.
He is survived by his daughter, Chris Linn of North Platte; grandchildren, Martin, Marc, Mikaila and Mitchel; nieces and nephews, Patricia Hatz, Robert Ewing, Jim Linn, Dee Jones, Jeff Linn, Lenny Kirts, David Kirts, Belinda Dudenhoffer, Thom Hayes, James Hayes, Lori Hoaglind, Brad Schulz and Kay Glover; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Kirts, Linda Schulz and Karen Hayes; brother-in-law, Richard Hayes; and many great nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley on Oct. 28, 2000; a son, Michael Steven on June 18, 2000; three brothers, Robert (Marge), George (Wyota), and Jim (Joyce) Linn; sister, Margaret (Ralph) Ewing; and brother-in-law, Lyle Kirts. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Logsdon officiating. Burial will be at the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
