Troopers Seize Over 100 Pounds of Pot in Separate Traffic Stops

POT-BUSTA traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 80 in Seward County led to the seizure of 92 lbs. of marijuana and one arrest.

Just before 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept., 11, a trooper stopped an eastbound 2014 Toyota Camry for speeding near the Milford exit in Seward County.  A probable cause search, led to the seizure of 92.4 lbs. of marijuana. The marijuana was contained in a duffel bag and several trash bags in the trunk of the car.

The driver of the vehicle, Derek C. Smith, 23, of Roanoke, Va., was lodged in the Seward County Jail on a charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver.

In a separate case, a trooper arrested two men for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver after they stopped to use the restroom at the eastbound Weigh Station on I-80 near Waverly.

Just before 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, a 2014 Ford SUV drove into the eastbound Weigh Station on I-80 just past the Waverly exit.  A trooper made contact and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search led to the seizure of 8.3 lbs. of marijuana. The marijuana was located in a bag in the rear cargo area of the SUV.

The driver of the vehicle, Marcell L. Jackson, 23, of Chicago, Ill., and a passenger in the vehicle, Martez L. Jackson, 28, of Riverdale, Ill., were both lodged in the Cass County Jail.
