The St. Patrick’s Irish are headed back to the Class C2 quarterfinals for the second year in a row after knocking off Cambridge 31-20 last night at Knights of Columbus Field. Matthew Jensen rushed for two scores and the Irish took advantage of four turnovers as they defeated the Trojans for the second time this season. The Irish will travel to face two-time defending state champion Hastings St. Cecelia in a rematch of last year’s state semifinal, won by the Bluehawks, in the next round. Also moving on to the state quarterfinals was Gothenburg in C1 after a thrilling quadruple overtime win over second-seeded Ogallala in Gothenburg. Tyler Aden’s two-point conversion in the fourth OT gave the Swedes the 36-35 upset win. The Swedes take on Minden in the quarterfinal round. Minden beat Gothenburg 34-7 in the regular season.
