Nebraska Town Works to Rebuild City Hall

hampton-nebraska-city-hallHAMPTON, Neb. (AP) — Voters in the small Nebraska town of Hampton approved spending $750,000 on a new city hall, but officials have found the project might cost more than that.

Hampton officials are reconsidering their options after their initial request drew only one bid for more than $900,000.

Village Clerk Sue Dallegge says the current city hall is in bad shape with a leaky roof and cracks in some walls. Plus, some city equipment won’t fit inside.

Hampton board chairman Dane Schafer says the town will try to find a bidder who can complete the project for less than $750,000.

If necessary, Hampton will revise the project to eliminate some optional elements.
