Ione “Lucille” Merritt

Ione “Lucille” Merritt, age 87 of North Platte, passed away Sunday October 19, 2014.
Lucille was born on February 14, 1927 in Logan County, NE to George and Virga (Zimmerman) Bailey. She grew up in that area and graduated from Gandy High School in 1945. She then went to college for 2 years and was a teacher in a one-room school house in Logan County for many years. She married Glen Merritt on February 14, 1967. She worked at the Skelly Inn in North Platte for 11 years and when the business closed, she worked at the Pawnee Hotel as a cook until her retirement. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake pies. She enjoyed spending time at home, but did like to visit with her friends. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Lucille is survived by her daughter Gena (Paul) Gray of Sutherland; 3 grandchildren Michael, Sebastian and Taarna Gray of Sutherland; 3 step children Rochelle Merritt of California, Randy Merritt of Omaha, Jim Merritt of Lincoln, and Gerrie Merritt of California; sister Delila Bailey of North Platte; brother Robert (Alda) Bailey of Arnold; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Glen; and brother Donald.
Memorials are suggested in her name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday October 24, 2014 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Eighmy officiating. Burial will follow at McCain Cemetery near Stapleton. Visitation will be Thursday October 23, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
