Nebraska senior linebacker Lavonte David was named one of eight semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy yesterday. The award is given yearly to the Defensive IMPACT Player of the year. David’s 88 tackles lead the Huskers this season. He also leads the team in tackles for loss with seven and interceptions with two. David has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week twice this season, after the Huskers’ victories over Ohio State and Michigan State. The nineteenth-ranked Huskers will do something on Saturday that no team has done in forty-seven years – play a Penn State team not coached by Joe Paterno. Paterno was removed as Penn State’s head coach last night, effective immediately, as the university continues to deal with the aftermath of a child abuse scandal. Kickoff is Saturday at 11 AM.
