Neva Mary Stuckey

Neva Mary Stuckey of Centerville, Ohio, formerly of Curtis, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at her home on October 24, 2014, at the age of 97. She was born on August 17, 1917, to Harry and Blanche (Nichols) Gilliland of Curtis, Nebraska, and was sixth of their seven children. Neva rode her horse to a one-room schoolhouse as a child until she was needed on the family farm. After meeting the handsome Charles S. Stuckey at a 4th of July picnic, they were married on January 29, 1938, and they moved to the Midwest and then New York to pursue his career and start their family. After 63 years of marriage and friendship, Neva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, and leaves behind her loving family: Arlene J. Stuckey Tansey, Charles E. (Jere) Stuckey, Karen K. Stuckey, and Linda M. (John) Holden; her fourteen grandchildren; and more great grandchildren than she could count. A devoted wife, dedicated mother and grandmother, and gifted homemaker, Neva was passionate about hospitality, correspondence, and world travel. She cherished annual trips to Maui and excursions to six of the seven continents, often with grandchildren in tow. Though she visited memorable settings from the fjords of Norway to the Great Wall of China, she resonated with no place more than the fields of Western Nebraska. Abroad and at home, she was entirely committed to nurturing the experiences and education of her family. Her legacy is endless. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at Home Instead who allowed her to stay at home, and to the dedicated family members and friends who went above and beyond to care for her and tend to her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Hospice of Dayton, OH. Messages to the family and stories about Neva can be shared via the online guest book available at www.carpentermemorial.com. Visitation will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, NE, on Tuesday, October 28, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Graveside service will be held at the Curtis Cemetery in Curtis, NE, on Wednesday, October 29, at 11:00 am. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
