Orville G. Gilpin, 84, of North Platte, passed away Oct. 25, 2014 at his home. He was born May 11, 1930 to Golden and Ellen W. (Schifferns) Gilpin at Pauline, NE. He graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1965. He was united in marriage April 16, 1955 to Helen V. Rizzi at Alliance, NE. Orville was employed by U.S. West as a central office technician for 43 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Telephone Pioneers, American Legion Post 0079 and past member of the Elks and Lions Club in Ainsworth. Orville was instrumental with the irrigation and sprinkler system at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. He is survived by his wife, Helen of North Platte; a daughter, Jean Marie Gilpin of North Platte; a son, Joseph Michael Gilpin of Overton, nieces and nephews, David and Mark Rizzi of Alliance, NE, Lynn and Lisa Rizzi of San Diego, CA and Larry Rizzi of Roseville, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorials are suggested to the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ainsworth, NE, 915 E. 3rd Street, Ainsworth, NE 69210. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Cremation was chosen. Private family services and inurnment will be held at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
