Sentencing for Hitting Nebraska Crossing Guard Postponed

ne-supreme-court-gavelGRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — A woman convicted of hitting a 54-year-old school crossing guard has had her sentencing date pushed back to January to allow the victim more time to heal.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old Sandra Angeles-Sandate hit crossing guard Sharon Guzinski as she drove out of the school parking lot on the morning of Aug. 15. Angeles-Sandate pleaded guilty in September to careless driving and not having a valid driver’s license.

Angeles-Sandate appeared in Hall County Court on Friday to learn her sentence and the amount of restitution she would be ordered to pay. But the sentencing was continued until Jan. 9 because Guzinski is still having medical issues. Prosecutors want to wait until her medical issues are resolved so they can request appropriate restitution.
