GERING, Neb. (AP) — A Scottsbluff woman is accused of stealing and spending the tax refund of her sister, who was fatally attacked while working at the Scotts Bluff County Jail.

26-year-old Cassandra Baker is charged with theft and with use of a financial device. Her sister, 24-year-old Amanda Baker, was attacked in February. An inmate, Dylan Cardeilhac, of Torrington, Wyoming, is charged with murder and is scheduled for trial later this month.

Cassandra Baker’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call Thursday from The Associated Press.

Court documents say Amanda Baker filed her federal and state tax returns for the tax year 2013 before her death. The documents say her federal refund of nearly $4,300 had been deposited onto a prepaid credit card that Cassandra Baker obtained.
