West Omaha Man Shelters Freezing, Wet 19-Year-Old

good-deedsOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 19-year-old man is being treated at a hospital after turning up wet and freezing at a front door in a west Omaha neighborhood.

Bill Orr answered his front door around 2 p.m. Thursday and found the shivering young man asking to use a phone.

Orr told the station that the young man had come from nearby Standing Bear Lake. Orr wrapped the young man in a blanket and then gave him another after he removed his wet clothes when deputies arrived.

Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the young man was last seen by his family around 7:30 a.m. It’s unclear how or why he went into the lake. The man’s name hasn’t been released.
