Chief: No Major Injuries in Nebraska House Fire

fireVALLEY, Neb. (AP) — Firefighters in eastern Nebraska say no one has been seriously injured in a fire that destroyed a rural home.

Waterloo Fire Chief Travis Harlow says the homeowner and his son escaped from the home near Valley on Monday after the flames broke out.

Harlow says it took firefighters from six departments about 35 minutes to contain the flames. He says getting water to the home was problematic because the closest hydrant was 5 miles away.

Harlow says the homeowner inhaled smoke while grabbing clothes and photos before leaving. The man declined medical treatment.

County records show the home was valued at about $360,000.

The cause of the fire is unclear.
