The North Platte Community College Lady Knights defeated the Colby Community College Lady Trojans 65-62 on Tuesday night in Colby, Kansas. The win evened the season series at 1- 1, avenging a 58-54 loss on November 15 at North Platte.
The Lady Knights trailed at half time 39-30 but outscored Colby 35-23 in the second half to secure the victory.
“We tightened up our defense the second half and our press bothered them which enabled us to score easy baskets.” Lady Knight head coach Richard Thurin said.
Another key, according to Thurin was having five players in double figures. The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Sarah Mahr from Sidney with 13 points, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the free throw line. The other four Lady Knights to score in double figures were: Aliyah Brown with 11; April Stull with 11; Djimonii Jackson with 11; and Ester Micheva with 10. Stull also contributed with 9 rebounds.
Overall the Lady Knights out-rebounded the Lady Trojans 51-46.
The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Amanda Miller with 17 points. Audra Nowak followed with 14 points and Laura Dennis finished with 10.
The Lady Knights improve to 5-4 for the year, while the Colby falls to 7-4.
The Lady Knights travel this weekend to face Midland University Junior Varsity in Fremont on Friday, December 5 and Northeast Community College in Norfolk on Saturday, December 6.
Tip-off for the Midland game is at 7:30 p. m. and the Northeast game will be at 2:00 p.m.
