LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An elderly Lincoln man has been sentenced to prison for his 15th drunken driving conviction and 23rd conviction of driving without a license.
A Lincoln judge sentenced 74-year-old Lee Edward Collins on Thursday to four to five years in prison on each count. Both sentences are to be served at the same time.
Deputy Lancaster County Nick Freeman argued that Collins is a danger to the public, noting that Collins not only continues to drive, but “to drink and drive.”
Deputies pulled Collins over on Feb. 1 in Lincoln because he was stopped in traffic at a green light. Police say he smelled of alcohol. At the time, Collins’ license was revoked on three separate offenses.
