DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — A 5-year-old Ohio boy hoping to save the football program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has donated his entire allowance, sending a $1 bill with a handwritten note of support.

His parents tell The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1wSMWwD ) that Bennett Williams of Dublin, Ohio, decided he liked UAB after seeing its dragon logo. He was disappointed to learn UAB is eliminating football.

His letter to UAB said: “I love Ohio State, but I think you should have football too. Here is one dollar to help!”

An assistant athletic director told Bennett’s family his kindness touched the beleaguered athletics staff, which is framing the letter and the dollar.

The Blazers sent back a football and other gear. Bennett was most excited about the accompanying letter calling him their top fan.
