New Grand Island Diocese Bishop to Be Named Next Week

grand-island-dioceseGRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Church will name a new bishop for the Diocese of Grand Island next week.

The new bishop will be announced during a press conference Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island.

The announcement comes following the retirement of Bishop William J. Dendinger.

In accordance with church law, bishops are required to submit a letter of retirement at age 75. Bishop Dendinger celebrated his 75th birthday on May 20.

Dendinger has served as bishop of the Grand Island Diocese since 2004.
