Wilkie Downs Waterloo With OT Goal

tcstormWATERLOO, Ia. – After 62 minutes of scoreless hockey, Chris Wilkie gave the Tri-City Storm (24-10-5) their tenth consecutive victory with an overtime-winning goal at 2:13 of the extra frame. The 1-0 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks (14-21-4) was Tri-City’s first overtime win of the season and their first win at Young Arena since Feb. 18, 2008.

Storm goaltender Jared Rutledge earned his first shutout of the season, making 32 saves in the win. Wilkie’s tally was his 23rd of the year, and came with assists from Mason Appleton and Mattias Goransson.

The current winning streak has tied the team’s all-time record, which was set back on March 5, 2004.

Cale Morris was also exceptional for Waterloo on the night, finishing with 25 saves in the game.

In addition to the lack of goals, each team only gave the other a single power play opportunity, of which neither squad could capitalize on.

Tri-City has hold of second place in the USHL’s Western Conference with 53 total points. They remain four points behind first-place Sioux City.

The Storm will close out three games in three days on Sunday afternoon with a 3:05 p.m. start against Waterloo.

Notes: The Storm scratched forwards Nolan Aibel and Chase Berger, along with defenseman Jason Krych…
