Nebraska senior linebacker Lavonte David was named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association yesterday, becoming the 96th different player in Husker history to receive the honor. David led the Huskers in 2011 with 122 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumbles forced and two fumbles recovered. He won the Big Ten’s Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year Award and was named a finalist for the Butkus Award, which goes to the nation’s best at the position. It’s the third straight year Nebraska has had a first-team All-America selection, joining Ndamukong Suh in 2009 and Prince Amukamara last season. In just two seasons as a Husker, David ranks fifth all-time in tackles in program history. The Huskers take on South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl on January 2nd.
