Bellevue Police: Burglary Suspect Arrested After Spotted Riding Child’s Bike

bellevue-police-patchBELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) — A man has been arrested after Bellevue police say they spotted him pedaling on a child’s bicycle, while carrying a bag filled with jewelry and cash believed to be stolen from a nearby residence.

Bellevue police on Thursday arrested the 35-year-old Omaha man on suspicion of burglary and felony assault on an officer.

Police say an officer was patrolling a neighborhood, when he saw the man riding the bicycle on a street. The officer stopped the man, who struck the officer twice in the face and ran.

The man was found hiding in a shed 20 minutes later, after other Bellevue officers and the Omaha Police Department’s helicopter were called to the area.

The officer was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
