The Colorado Rockies continue to unload players who played key roles on the disappointing 2011 roster, with the hope of freeing up money to pursue free agents. The Rockies traded relief pitcher Huston Street to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later. The Rockies will pay just one million dollars to Street next year, with the Padres picking up the other seven million on the final year of the pitcher’s contract. Street pitched for the Rockies as their closer the last three seasons, compiling a 3.50 ERA and 84 saves. But he missed significant time each of those three seasons with injuries, and last year lost the closing role to Rafael Betancourt. The Rockies continue to pursue free agents, most notably former Dodgers pitcher Hiroki Kuroda and former Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer.
