Public Invited to Eclipse Viewing Party at Behlen Observatory

Behlen-ObservatoryMEAD, Neb. (AP) — The public has been invited to join a lunar eclipse viewing party next month at Behlen Observatory, southeast of Mead.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Physics and Astronomy Department says the all-night Easter bash and viewing party will be held April 3-4.

If weather permits, people will be able to see the moon, Venus, Jupiter and more through a variety of telescopes. Glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunts and physics demonstrations will take place all night. A rock band called the Fluffy Psycho Bunnies, featuring members of the physics department, will play a free show starting at 10 p.m. on April 3.

The lunar eclipse will begin about 5 the next morning, with the maximum eclipse at about 7 a.m. The observatory will close at 7:30 a.m.
