Columbus Woman Gets Prison for Chase, Theft

gavel-and-scaleCOLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) — A 20-year-old Columbus woman who crashed a stolen pickup has been sent to prison for theft and trying to get away from officers.

Platte County District Court records say Mallory Smith pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge connected to the Nov. 16 chase in Platte and Butler counties that ended when she crashed near Bellwood. She also pleaded no contest to a felony theft charge.

On Monday Smith was sentenced to a year for trying to flee and 20 to 36 months for theft. The sentences are to be served at the same time.
