A former North Platte woman has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for manufacturing child pornography.

According to a news release from United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg, 34-year-old Julia Thiemann appeared in United States District Court before Senior United States Judge Richard G. Kopf for sentencing on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, in November of 2013, one of three children who were identified as victims in the case revealed to a therapist that he believed another child had been sexually assaulted by Thiemann’s live-in boyfriend, Billy Schrader.

The information was reported to the North Platte Police Department and a search warrant was obtained for Schrader’s residence.

At the time of the search, law enforcement seized computer equipment and other items.

After a forensic examination of the seized equipment, over 75,000 images of child pornography, produced by Thiemann and Schrader, were identified.

Thiemann was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison on Thursday, and Schrader was sentenced to 30 years earlier in the week.

Both Thiemann and Schrader must register as sex offenders for the remainder of their lives.

Gilg says the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.

Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

This case was investigated by the North Platte Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted jointly with the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office.
