SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after they say Sidney police fatally shot a 44-year-old man who was armed with a knife.
Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says two police officers had responded to a 911 call at a residence Sunday and spotted a woman running away from the home. Police went inside and confronted her husband, Dana Hlavinka, who was holding the knife, and shot him.
The newspaper reports that all officer-involved shootings require the convening of a grand jury under state law. Schaub said he’ll ask the local district judge to appoint a special acting attorney to review the incident and convene a grand jury.
Further details weren’t immediately available. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating.
