Sheryl Joan Mowers, age 74 of North Platte, passed away Thursday May 21, 2015.
Sheryl was born on August 7, 1940 in Curtis, NE to Elston and Cora (Gardner) McConahay. In 1942 the family moved to North Platte when Elston hired on the railroad. She attended North Platte Public Schools, graduating in 1958. After graduation she worked at 1st National Bank before marrying Don Mowers on September 27, 1971. The couple owned and operated the David Store in Tryon from 1973 to 1976. They also owned the grocery store in Maxwell for a time. In addition Sheryl worked for many years as the school secretary at Our Redeemer Lutheran School until her retirement. She was a long time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was a L.W.M.L. member. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 57 years. Sheryl loved playing solitaire along with her sister, classic music, soap operas, movies and tv shows.
Sheryl is survived by daughter Linda (Bill) Groves of North Platte; daughter-in-law MeKay Mowers of Windsor, CO; 2 sons Dan (Tami) Mowers of Grand Island and David (Kelly) Mowers of Englewood, CO; 5 grandchildren, Justin, Kate, Lyndsey, Nicole, Mackenna; great grandchildren Christopher, Zoe, Ivy; 2 brothers Jerry (Norma) McConahay of North Platte and Neil (Janice) McConahay of Tempe, AZ; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don; son Matthew; sisters Carol (McConahay) Kuhlmann and Janice McConahay; and brothers Milton, Harold and Tom McConahay.
Memorials are suggested to Our Redeemer L.W.M.L. and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 26, 2015 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Wiest officiating. Burial will follow at Curtis Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 p.m. Sunday May 24, 2015 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
